The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention CDC has released a study conducted in China that suggests air conditioners may have a role in the spread of coronavirus.

The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention has published a study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Guangzhou, China, explaining the spread of the disease through air conditioning. According to research by the Guangzhou Center for Disease and Control Prevention, a patient who went from Wuhan, where the outbreak began, on January 23rd to Guangzhou on the 24th January, ate with his family on the 3rd floor of a restaurant that 5-storey, no-windows and air-conditioned. In an area of 145 square meters, 2 more families were eating at tables placed with a distance of 1 meter. The person thought to have spread the disease was admitted to a hospital that night with coronavirus symptoms, and by February 5 a total of 9 people from 3 tables had contracted the disease. No viruses were detected in the air conditioning of the restaurant, where 73 more people were eating that day. The researches of the study, approved by the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Ethics Commission, concluded that coronavirus particles, which can hang in the air for a short time, may have circulated between tables with the air conditioning’s strong airflow.
