Criticized for “not being fair” because of the closure of French restaurants in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, Michelin group have announced the 2021 stars of the Michelin Guide France.
The guide which named 57 new restaurants held the ceremony online for the first time in its history. As 1 new restaurant got its third star, there are 2 new two-starred restaurants and 54 new one Michelin-starred restaurants. This year’s guide awards 33 restaurants with the green star while 11 pastry chefs were named in the Passion Dessert selection.
Stating that they wanted to reward restaurants that kept offering the best food and the best service despite the hardships faced, the International Director of Michelin Guides, Gwendall Poullenec said: “As we know, 2020 was a particularly challenging and difficult year for restaurant owners. However, they welcomed diners whenever they could, and customers responded eagerly, demonstrating their deep fondness for fine cuisine. Our teams have been impressed by this show of solidarity and engagement. For us, it was important to honor our longstanding commitment to diners and chefs by publishing our 2021 selection of restaurants.”
