One of Argentina’s most innovative chefs whose renown spans Latin America.
Chef-patron of some of Argentina’s most successful and iconic restaurants, past and present.
Tegui was Argentina’s most world-acclaimed fine-dining restaurant during its 12-year existence. It was there that Germán focused on bringing to the fore Argentine products and reinterpreting classic recipes, and, in so doing, creating new classics.
He is also a scholar of his country’s gastronomical history. Since 2016, Germán has directed Proyecto Tierras, travelling to many regions of Argentina in search of products, narratives and handicrafts. In 2020, Tierras entered into television programming, expanding the reach of its mission to all Argentine homes.
In his role as one of Masterchef Argentina’s judges, Germán has been able to make the best use of the popular programme as a platform from which to share his message and ideas to millions.
Following the pandemic lockdown in 2021, Germán ended Tegui’s 12-year run and began a new adventure. Marti, his most recent project, is a vegetarian restaurant, a personal endeavour as Germán and his sons are vegetarian. Marti, with its oval bar surrounding the kitchen in the Recoleta district of Buenos Aires, has abandoned the fine-dining scene for a more casual and approachable ambience, while also making a tireless effort to address the issues of sustainability and the future of food and dining.
