Successful chef James Sommerin, who had to close his Michelin-starred restaurant due to the pandemic in the past months, is back with his new restaurant, The Shed.

James Sommerin, who announced the closing of his eponymous Michelin-starred restaurant with the statement “As a family, we’re completely devastated about the closure of the restaurant”, continues to host his guests with The Shed by James Sommerin, which he opened in Barry. Besides the main restaurant with a capacity of 30 people, the successful chef will also offer takeaway and delivery services with dishes including salmon and hake fish cakes with herb butter.

The new venture, which is owned and managed by Head in the Shed Limited; a newly formed business set-up by James and his wife Louise, along with investors Liam Murphy and Sarah Weaver, adopts the philosophy of “a modern and contemporary dining place” and focuses on “Barry’s proud industrial heritage.”

“These are uncertain times for everyone but the hospitality and leisure industry has been hit particularly badly by the pandemic,” said chef Sommerin about the restaurant which is sponsored by the Development Bank of Wales and Visit Wales. “However, we’ve got to keep moving forward and with the help of the Development Bank of Wales and Visit Wales we have now opened our next venture with contingency plans to ensure that we can adapt to social distancing measures as they evolve. With the support of our funders, we’ve got the confidence to invest and look forward to a successful future, whatever the coming months bring for us all.”
