Founded by Chef José Andrés, the nonprofit World Central Kitchen responds to every major disaster across the globe to serve meals to those in need. And now they help people who refuge escaping from violence to nearby countries.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been continuing for more than one week. With ongoing threats, more than 660,000 people have fled from Ukraine to nearby countries.

In support of people who need help, WCK began serving hot and nourishing meals in Poland within a day of the initial attack and they are now set up at eight border crossings.

While the team is serving round-the-clock meals in Medyka, Royal Catering set up tents to provide 1,000 plates of chicken with potatoes, along with cabbage, carrot, and beet salad for lunch In Hrebenne.

Together with 26 restaurants, they have served over 41,000 meals so far and continue. WCK is setting up a kitchen in Krościenko with the support of the local group Master’s Catering as well. So they have the capacity to cook 10,000 plates of food each day.

“Too often people only help themselves, but I believe we have to help each other.”  said 23-year-old Wiktor who is a volunteer from Jaworzno in southern Poland to help support refugee families with WCK. With help from Wiktor and many others, WCK is providing meals along the border from 26 different restaurant partners.
