Vedat Başaran

Vedat Başaran was interested in football in his youth and took a step into professional
football. At some point, Başaran turned his career towards gastronomy and developed
himself in this field. Başaran received culinary training in England and after returning to
Turkey, he undertook projects for the promotion and development of Turkish cuisine. He
took important roles in prestigious places such as Çırağan Palace (Tuğra Restaurant) and
Feriye Restaurant. Vedat Başaran, who has written books promoting Turkish and Ottoman
cuisine and played an important role in reinforcing our country’s place in gastronomy
tourism, is currently the chef and partner of Tershane Karaköy.

Başaran was awarded the ‘Turkish-Ottoman Researcher Chef Award’ at the Gault&Millau
2024 Türkiye Guide Awards for his contributions to Turkish cuisine, while Tershane Karaköy
received 1 Toque. Also, the restaurant entered ‘Bib Gourmand’ list to the Michelin Guide
Istanbul 2023.
