Singapore has become the first country in the world to grant regulatory approval to meat alternative lab-grown chicken.
Singapore Food Agency (SPA) approved Eat Just’s cultured chicken meat, a meat alternative created from cultured chicken cells, to be used as an ingredient in chicken bites. The product will be sold under the brand GOOD Meat.
“We’ve been eating meat for many hundreds, thousands of years, always needing to kill an animal to eat – until now!” says Eat Just co-owner and CEO Josh Tetrick. He also states that the product is a high source of protein and mineral.
According to Josh Tetrick, the cultured meat will be sold in a vegan restaurant in Singapore but the company aims for a wider commercial use of the product. The chicken alternative will be priced in parity with chicken prices.
Now, Eat Just has manufacturing hubs in Singapore and Northern California but the company aims to widen the use of their products such as cultured meat and beef to America and Western Europe.
