According to the report compiled by Centre for Retail Research, 29.684 people working in independent and branch restaurants and cafes became unemployed in the United Kingdom due to COVID-19.
Recorded as 11.280 in 2019, the number of people who lost their jobs reached 30.000 in 2020. The report states an increase of 163% in job losses during 2020 in the restaurant sector. Branch closures rose by 76% while higher rates of closure and job losses are expected to be observed in 2021.
