A total of 43 restaurants in Shanghai were awarded with Michelin stars, while the Michelin Guide released the 2021 edition for the East China city of Shanghai as of yesterday.

As the restaurant industry goes through a worldwide crisis due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Michelin Guide continues to work to support restaurants, this time returning to Shanghai for the fifth time. Last year saw Shanghai garner a significant increase in restaurants awarded stars, jumping from 30 to 40. At the upper end of the scale, Paul Pairet’s Ultraviolet was awarded a third Michelin star back in 2018 and retains it this year, while Bao Li Xuan and Da Vittorio made the jump to two stars, bringing the number of two-star restaurants in Shanghai to ten.
