In the US, as protests spread across the country, restaurant chains such as McDonald’s, Starbucks and Wendy’s supported Black Lives Matter and pledged to take steps to make improvements in their organizations and donated to local and national organizations that support African Americans.

On Wednesday, McDonald’s sent a message through its social media channels with the names of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling, Botham Jean, Atatiana Jefferson, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, who were killed by police or other people by saying “one of us” for the names. The big chain said, “We do not tolerate inequality, injustice, or racism,” and also donated $ 1 million to the NAACP and the National Urban League. “Now is the time for our brand to raise our voice and speak up,” said Morgan Flatley, McDonald’s US marketing chief, in a message sent by the chain in the US.

Several other chains have taken similar steps, Restaurant Business Online reported. Wendy’s supported Black Lives Matter on Wednesday and said it was donating $500,000 to support social justice, youth and education in the Black community, starting with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. “We know we have a lot more work to do than a donation,” the company said in a statement. Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks, meanwhile, said Thursday that the Starbucks Foundation has donated $ 1 million to organizations promoting racial equality nominated by employees. The company also noted that it has partnered with Arizona State University to design anti-bias resources and education that can be accessed free of charge by everyone.
